Well no wonder I didn't get the job.

It's pretty bad when you apply for an editing position and then find a typo in your cover letter three weeks later.

D'oh!

Once in the '70s, desperate for work, I interviewed at one of those job-placement outfits. The fellow asked me, "What would you do if a potential employer required you to shave your beard?"

I told him I wouldn't want to work for an employer who expected me to follow such a ridiculous rule.

'Course, I never heard back from them. I assumed I didn't have the proper professional credentials or some such silly thing.

Either way, best of luck. Even in the present tough times, I'm sure you must be at the top of the candidate pile for many of the vacancies that are coming up.
